Special events, networking opportunities on tap for National Hardware Show

NORWALK, Conn. - The National Hardware Show, which will be held May 7-9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, has announced a variety of special events and networking opportunities for both exhibitors and attendees.
"We're pleased to be able to offer meetings, receptions and other opportunities for home improvement retailers, manufacturers and buyers to get together and talk about what's happening in the industry," said Sonya Ruff Jarvis, vice president for attendee programs at the National Hardware Show. "With so many exhibitors, attendees and organizations under one roof, the National Hardware Show is a great time for everyone to get together."
Special events at the upcoming National Hardware Show include:
MONDAY, MAY 6
7:30-8:30 p.m.: Young Retailer of the Year Awards Ceremony, The Renaissance Ballroom
The Young Retailer of the Year Awards, presented by the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA), recognizes young, aspiring retailers, honors them for their outstanding achievements and encourages talented young people to pursue a career in the retail hardware field. The program is now in its 17th year and, to date, has honored more than 100 young retailers.
"This is one of our most fun events at the National Hardware Show," said Bill Lee, president and CEO of NRHA. "We love hearing the stories of these young entrepreneurs, who are the future of the home improvement industry. It's very uplifting, and their stories are inspiring."

TUESDAY, MAY 7
8:45-9:00 a.m.: Grand Opening Ceremonies, NRHA Stage
Join the National Hardware Show and NRHA for the grand opening ceremony of the 68th National Hardware Show and All-Industry Conference on the NRHA stage in the Central Hall lobby.
3-5 p.m.: Retailer Happy Hour, Silver Parking Lot
Join the Retailer Happy Hour in the Outdoors, Tailgate & Recreation area. Complimentary drink tickets will be given out to anyone with their RED badge.
11 p.m.-midnight: Official Kick-Off Party, LAVO in the Palazzo Hotel
This is the kick-off party for the National Hardware Show. Bring your show badge and receive complimentary admission and enjoy one hour of well open bar.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 8
7-10 a.m.: 29th Annual Golden Hammer Awards, Room N253
The 29th annual Golden Hammer Awards, presented by Home Channel News magazine, will honor the industry's movers and shakers. The awards will be presented in 30 categories to a list of vendors who have been selected by their industry peers.
This year, Ray Griffith, retired CEO of Ace Hardware, will be inducted into the Home Channel Hall of Fame. Nebraska-based builders Kearney will receive the Tools of the Trade Award. The Springfield, Mass.-based Rocky's Ace Hardware will receive the Retailer of the Year Award.
Griffith will join previous Golden Hammer Hall of Fame honorees Bob Taylor, Do it Best Corp. CEO (2012), Larry Stone of Lowe's Cos. (2011) and Patt Farrah, a co-founder of The Home Depot (2010).
"The Golden Hammer Awards recognize the best of the best in home improvement," said Ken Clark, editor of Home Channel News. "We believe we have assembled a field of high-profile and high-performing retailers and suppliers for another great Golden Hammer event."
1:30-6 p.m.: Global Home Improvement Conference, Room N253
The Global Home Improvement Conference will include speakers from a variety of home improvement organizations around the world, including Erwin van Osta, president of BricoAlliance and CEO from HUBO; Marco Orlandelli, president of Organizzazione Orlandelli; and Ibrahim Ibrahim, managing director of Portland Design.
"I am very pleased that we have managed to organize this first-ever conference and to engage such excellent speakers," said John Herbert, general secretary of the European DIY-Retail Association (EDRA). "This promises to be an excellent international networking event, and I hope this conference will be the first of many to come in the future, and with it, yet another reason to come to the USA to attend the No. 2 event in the industry."
Tickets are complimentary, but seating is limited, so anyone interested in attending should RSVP. There will be a reception immediately following the conference, from 6-7 p.m.
4-4:30 p.m.: Third Annual Game Ball Awards, Silver Parking Lot
Join the third annual Game Ball Awards, sponsored by Tailgater Magazine.
4-6:30 p.m.: Outdoors, Tailgate & Recreation Party, Silver Parking Lot
Come to the Outdoors, Tailgate & Recreation area in the Silver Parking Lot for a party. There will be beer, music, sweepstakes and exclusive giveaways.
8-10 p.m.: National Hardware Show Party, Hyde Nightclub
The National Hardware Show party, at Hyde Nightclub at the Bellagio, includes free admission and a complimentary drink with your show badge

IHA International Congress
The 2013 International Federation of Hardware & Housewares Association (IHA) is being held in conjunction with the National Hardware Show, offering a chance to network with others in the home improvement industry. Events will include the IHA International Congress Business Meeting, the IHA-NRHA International Networking Reception and more.
