LOS ANGELES - City of Hope is aiming to create a nationwide team of supporters called Citizens of Hope.
In celebration of the medical research and treatment institution's 100-year anniversary and to raise more awareness of its groundbreaking accomplishments, Citizens of Hope is a national campaign highlighting City of Hope's impact on communities and people.
Samson Marketing’s Kevin O’Connor has made a Citizens of Hope badge and a donation to City of Hope, and he’s encouraging others to do so as well.
Industry leader Kevin O'Connor, president and CEO of Samson Marketing, encouraged High Point Market participants to join in the effort.
The campaign offers an opportunity for people whose lives have been touched by illness to create a Citizens of Hope badge that shares their own personal message of hope and inspiration. Anyone can make a badge at the City of Hope website.
"If everyone who attends the High Point furniture market would create a Citizens of Hope badge and give a donation at cityofhope.org/giving, think how much more could be achieved and how quickly discoveries that start in the lab could turn into real treatments for patients," said Brittany De La Torre, City of Hope's director of development.
Donations of $10 can also be made through City of Hope's new text-to-give option by texting GIVEHOPE to 27722.
City of Hope is promoting the campaign nationally with the help of celebrity supporters, including actor Kiefer Sutherland.
The medical center is a leader in the fight against cancer, and its researchers and doctors also are working to find cures for diabetes and HIV/AIDS. It has been a pioneer in developing treatments for the diseases.
Also at market, City of Hope will honor furniture industry leaders Michael Amini of AICO and the Goldberg family - Neil, Steve and Michael - of Liverpool, N.Y.-based retailer Raymour & Flanigan. At a gala dinner April 21 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., they will receive the 2013 Spirit of Life Award recognizing their philanthropic achievements and business leadership.
