Casual Furniture Imports
Daphne Garland-McLean -- Casual Living, July 20, 2010
As consumers curbed spending and focused mainly on necessities, imports of outdoor furniture experienced a drop not seen in recent years. U.S. outdoor furniture imports decreased to $1.99 billion in 2009 from 2008's revised $2.36 billion. That's a decline of 16%, according to the most recent figures from the U.S. Customs Service, U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. International Trade Commission.
China continued to dominate all other countries. Even though this country took a hit in shipments to the United States in 2009, its 12% tumble did not hurt its standing as the leader of the pack among source countries. China's shipments to America totaled $1.65 billion in 2009, down from $1.88 billion in the previous year.
