Principia and METAPHOR partner to study outdoor product trends
David Perry -- Casual Living, June 27, 2013
MALVERN, Pa. - Demand for residential exterior building products and outdoor casual living products is expected to outpace overall remodeling spending over the next few years.
Homeowners are driving the demand as they turn their decks and patios into outdoor rooms and their backyards into casual living retreats. Similar to indoor décor, consumers now want to coordinate styles and colors throughout the space, which has an impact on product manufacturers and retailers.
Manufacturers need to consider how color and design trends affect demand for their products as well as how to best merchandise to capture consumer-buying dollars. Principia is pleased to announce its partnership with METAPHOR for a joint effort by combining Principia's best in market analytics with METAPHOR's color and design research to launch Color, Design and Market Trends for Residential Outdoor Products 2013.
"The report will help companies rationalize and improve product lines as well as streamline product offerings by understanding which to drop, modify or begin to phase out," said Steve Van Kouteren, business director of industry reports for Principia. "All too often, companies introduce new colors and designs that don't sell well, the channel invests in inventory and at season's end company profit dollars are sitting on the ground as obsolete inventory."
METAPHOR Creative Director George Gehringer said, "The value of this report to manufacturers and retailers is that it offers a creative process to minimize the risks in product design and portfolio management. The benefits to consumers pursuing their outdoor lifestyles are products that coordinate with current décor, marketing and merchandising and offer solutions to ease consumer buying anxiety."
The Color, Design and Market Trends for Residential Outdoor Products 2013 study will help companies including manufacturers, distributors, dealers, retailers, architects and landscape design firms understand how color and design trends will impact the demand for residential outdoor products in the United States. The report will provide insights on:
• Emerging outdoor styles and design attributes
• Colors and designs to offer and merchandise
• Product tracking and gap identification to help in product portfolio management
• Positioning of products for the upcoming season
• Focus areas for new product development for future seasons
The report will also contain high quality photos of design boards that will show color and design trends across building and consumer products and illustrate product gaps. These design boards in a larger size will also be available for sale after the report is published.
