Sunbrella Fabrics Win Platinum, Gold and Silver ADEX Awards

-- Casual Living, 6/5/2009 12:57:00 PM

Sunbrella fabrics were honored in this year’s ADEX awards competition with the presentation of one Platinum, two Gold and one Silver award. Building on the success of multiple years of recognition in the ADEX competition, the latest awards reinforce the leadership of the Glen Raven Design Team, the creative force behind Sunbrella fabrics.

The Caroline Seabreeze Collection earned a Platinum Award, while the Ginza Collection of Sunbrella awning fabrics and the Sunbrella Velvet New Color Introductions earned Gold Awards. The Silica Awning Fabric Collection earned a Silver Award.

“Our goal over the past several years has been to elevate the styling excellence of Sunbrella fabrics to match our brand’s long-held reputation for performance,” said Gina Wicker, design and creative director for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, the makers of Sunbrella fabrics. “The ADEX awards offer validation for our success in creating fabrics that are as beautiful and comfortable as they are long lasting.”

The Caroline Seabreeze Collection of furniture fabrics, winners of an ADEX Platinum award, features Aqua as the dominant color. This collection includes an update on neutrals, such as Dupione in Stone and Sand, Sunbrella Velvet in Taupe and Canvas Bay Brown. Canvas Ether, a new solid, brings together Aqua and Bay Brown in a bird’s eye weave for a subtle texture. Caroline Seabreeze, as a fabric pattern, ties the collection together with a playful stripe with an upbeat color palette of Aqua, Heather Beige and a dash of Charcoal Gray.
Earning a Gold ADEX award, the Ginza Collection of Sunbrella awning fabrics includes Tresco Clay, Ginza Java, Silica Sesame and Tresco Ginger. These fabrics are part of the 28 solids, textures and stripes in the 2009-2010 Sunbrella Awning Fabric Collection.

Tresco, a bird’s eye texture, combines two Sunbrella yarn colors to achieve a tiny dot pattern. The pattern is featured in Clay, an earthy alternative and Ginger, a modern take on traditional orange. Ginza Java features a rich, brown ground with interplay of warm neutrals, ideal as an awning fabric to accent a variety of home exteriors. Silica Sesame has a slub texture and subtle color effect that is new to the exterior awning market.

“The Ginza Collection of Sunbrella awning fabrics showcases our commitment to leading trends in all areas of performance fabrics, including awnings,” Wicker said. “Our new awning fabric introductions are the most extensive and the most innovative in terms of styling ever for the Sunbrella line.”

Also earning a Gold award was the collection of Sunbrella Velvet New Color Introductions. Based on the initial success of the Sunbrella Velvets, Glen Raven recently introduced 10 new colors.

“Sunbrella Velvets are made from the same family of high performance yarns used in awning and marine applications, making them ideal for the most demanding environments, inside or outside the home,” Wicker said. “The new colors in the collection will enable designers and consumers alike to bring everyday livable elegance to home decor.”

New colors in the Sunbrella Velvet collection include Riviera, Mineral, Spa, Moss, Ginkgo, Pumpkin, Nutmeg, Taupe, Charcoal and Red for a total of 19 available colors. The entire collection is available through Donghia.
An ADEX Silver award went to the Silica Awning Fabric Collection. This collection is available in Barley, Dune, Sesame, Silver and Stone with a look similar to raw silk or linen. The surface texture of Silica is a first for high performance awning fabrics, with a subtle slub effect visible from beneath an awning.
