Outdoor furniture maker JRA files Chapter 7

JRA Furniture Industries, which supplied outdoor furniture to mass market chains including Kmart and Sears, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection in early June.
Since 2005, the Cerritos, Calif.-based company has faced a class action lawsuit filed by Chicago-based Horwitz, Horwitz and Associates that asserted glass-topped patio furniture JRA Furniture manufactured for the Martha Stewart Everyday brand sold at Kmart spontaneously shattered during ordinary use. Kmart and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia were also named in the lawsuit.
