ADEX awards presented to casual furniture and fabric makers

Staff -- Casual Living, 8/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

The 2006–07 Award for Design Excellence competition attracted a record 1,858 entries. Elegant and innovative designs brought platinum ADEX awards to outdoor furniture makers, including Terra and Veneman, as well as Outdura fabrics by Shuford Mills.

Winning an ADEX platinum award was Veneman Collections' Cortez Double Chaise, which is made of durable outdoor woven materials over a powder-coated aluminum frame. The chaise can be lifted to three different heights, so guests can lounge side-by-side or face each other.

The Cortez' modular concept allows a variety of combinations and individual arrangement of the furniture. "The magic of our Cortez Adjustable Double Chaise is that it provides an outdoor fantasy for two," said Bill Markowitz, president of Veneman. "The chaise has deep cushions, constructed of fill materials that are ideal for all-weather conditions and 14 designer finishes."

A platinum honor also was awarded to Terra Furniture's Resort Collection, which blends classic and modern styles effortlessly as it couples tubular and cast aluminum for a selection of lightweight outdoor dining furniture. Terra's Mount Vernon Collection won an ADEX gold award for its elegant adaptations of historic furnishings at George and Martha Washington's Virginia estate. Constructed of cast and extruded aluminum for outdoor use, the Mount Vernon Collection is available in 20 designer finishes. Martha's Garden, a new custom fabric collection, is available in beige and terra cotta on off-white tapestry and was inspired by the interior wallpaper of a trunk found at Mount Vernon.

Fabric maker Shuford Mills won an ADEX platinum award for its Horizons collection in the Outdura line of furniture-weight performance fabrics. Outdura's award-winning collection features a new color, Aquatic. Its lead pattern, Tempo, takes a fresh, modern approach to the classic paisley. Coordinated with a grasscloth-like texture called Cadence, Tempo also pairs with a bold, upscale stripe, Skyline. This 100% solution-dyed acrylic group can fit in any setting.

"We're honored to again have one of our new collections chosen for the prestigious ADEX award," said Jeff Jimison, vice president of sales, Outdura. "We're proud of our furniture fabrics, and we're pleased to be recognized by the design community. Outdura has had a great reception in the marketplace. Manufacturers like knowing that Outdura retains its vibrant color and beauty indoors and out, even when subjected to weather, children and pets."
