Patio Enclosures closing furniture division

-- Casual Living, 5/26/2009 7:57:00 AM

Patio Enclosures is closing its furniture division in Macedonia, Ohio, and Pittsburgh as it focuses on its core sunroom business in a tough economy.

The manufacturer and installer of sunrooms, which employed six people at the two sites, will hold a liquidation sale to dispose of more than $1.5 million in patio furniture and fireplace inventory, according to a press release. Founded in 1966, Patio Enclosures has 300 employees nationwide and does not disclose annual revenues.

Craig Cox, president and CEO of Patio Enclosures, said the company continues to grow its sunroom business. Earlier in May, the company announced it is opening nine new sunroom dealer locations as a part of its focus on its core residential and commercial sunroom, solarium and conservatory business, according to Crain’s Cleveland Business.

“This will have no effect on our sunroom business as The Casual Living Store was a separate division of Patio Enclosures, Inc.,” Cox said. “We are sorry to have to close our furniture division after being a part of the Patio Enclosures family since 1986. However based on the current economic climate we have had to make some very serious decisions.”

Company spokesman David Hanni described the move as purely a business decision. “The whole market has been very slow, and the decision was made to focus on our sunroom business,” Hanni said.

With branches, franchises and dealers around the United States and Canada, Patio Enclosures says it is the largest manufacturer and installer of sunrooms in North America. The company also offers a complete line of retractable and window awnings, vinyl replacement windows, custom blinds and shades.
