Helps Indonesian government toward goal

Jewels of Java CEO Karel Simeon and factory employees recently planted a forest of 1,000 trees in the local village in Central of Java, Indonesia.

“While Jewels of Java led the efforts, it was very much a community effort,” Simeon said. Local Boy and Girl Scouts helped with the laborious tasks of digging holes and planting the seedling trees.

The government of Indonesia recently launched a plan to plant one tree for every citizen. Local and national government officials were present to support the project. Jewels of Java employees gladly led the local community response to this initiative. Several species of trees were planted including pine, rubber and fruit trees. The forest is not intended to be a plantation but a sanctuary of birds and wildlife. The purpose is to provide a green space and long-term reforestation of the region.

“It was a long day of very hard work but rewarding for all of our people and many hands made light work,” Simeon said. “Jewels of Java is committed to the local community and environment in our village area, and this was a very tangible way to demonstrate that we have a long-term commitment to the region.”
