Entries set new record

Setting the bar higher has become the standard for the Design Excellence Awards competition, which again attracted a record number with 145 entries in nine categories. With 35 product entries, tubular aluminum products was the largest category.

Design Excellence Awards will be presented Sept. 15 during the Casual Market Welcome Party in Market Suites on the 7th floor of Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. The award presentation will kick off the evening at 6 p.m. on the North Side of the 7th floor. New this year, Design Excellence entries will be on display on the North Side for attendees to peruse the product entries and the winners. In addition to honors for the best new product designs, Manufacturer Leadership Awards will commend outstanding casual furniture and accessories suppliers and Merchandising Excellence Awards will recognize distinction in booth and showroom visual presentation. After the awards presentations, the party will move to the rest of the 7th floor. Complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served during the welcome party, hosted by Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc.

The winner of the Design Excellence Lillian B. Winchester Best of Show Award will be named Wednesday, Sept. 17, during the 49th Annual Apollo Awards at the Navy Pier Grand Ballroom. The Apollo Awards are the main event to recognize retail excellence, honor lifetime achievement in the casual furniture industry and, this year, will include an outdoor fabric fashion show. Tickets are required for the Apollo Awards event, hosted by MMPI and the International Casual Furnishings Association.
