Porch & Patio déjà vu

The new Porch & Patio is set to open its doors in Orange, Conn., prompting a clear case of déjà vu.
The first Porch & Patio opened its doors in 1950 with Sid Teitelman and his wife Hilda at the helm. They built a vibrant business, opening six stores with quality brands, top-notch customer service and a strong devotion to their loyal staff. This time, Jeff Heitmann will open the new Porch & Patio at the exact same address.

Heitmann is no stranger to the casual furniture industry or to Porch & Patio. He started working the warehouse at Porch & Patio when he was in high school. He went on to become a manager. The original Porch & Patio went through several management transitions before it closed in 2005. Heitmann joined another former Porch & Patio manager and opened patio stores in Wethersfield and Canton, Conn. With more than 20 years of experience under his belt, Heitmann was ready to start something on his own.
When asked what excites him most about opening the new Porch & Patio, Heitmann said, “I am excited to have the opportunity to merge all that I’ve learned into a fresh perspective on casual living. Gathering friends and family together to entertain at home has become even more significant these days. So, we want to offer the best known brands in casual living and some of the newest trends that make entertaining special.”
Pointing to a spectacular black Gensun cast aluminum table with coordinating chairs for 12, Heitmann went on to explain, “No one but Porch & Patio can bring something so special to the consumer. That is what really excites me.”
Heitmann said he wants his customers to count on Porch & Patio to have the right furniture for their lifestyle. “We are planning to use social media and traditional methods of staying in touch with our customers so our level of customer service is enhanced,” he said.
Teitelman, now 95, said he thinks of Heitmann as a son. He continued, “My Dad told me when I was a young man, don’t work for anyone else. Be your own man.” Now, Heitmann is following in his footsteps. Teitelman is pleased to see the new store front, the same address, all the same wonderful brands and even the same phone number, about to bloom once more.
Heitmann and staff will devote themselves to the legacy they represent, in honor of Teitelman. Porch & Patio will offer all the top brands of outdoor furniture, wicker and rattan, fireplace furnishings, umbrellas, canopies and accessories. The store also will offer a storage service and refurbishing program for outdoor furniture.
