Global Surroundings to debut eco-friendly furniture at HD Boutique Expo

-- Casual Living, 9/5/2008 7:23:00 AM

Global Surroundings will introduce an innovative eco-friendly, woven resin and reclaimed teak furniture line at the HD Boutique in Miami, Sept. 17-18.

“After our huge success introducing our products at the HD Expo in Las Vegas, we felt the HD Boutique was the perfect venue to display this unique collection to the Southeastern U.S. and all of the Caribbean islands,” said JL Jackson, president of Global Surroundings. “Contract and commercial applications today are demanding the products going into the projects be eco-friendly and sustainable and our furniture delivers.”

Jackson described the reception to The Palisades Collection as overwhelming at the HD Show and expressed confidence the reception at the HD Boutique would be similar. “This market is clearly asking for sustainable furnishings with cutting edge design,” he said. “Consumers today are conscious of the products they utilize at high-end resorts, hotels and restaurants.”

Global Surroundings partnered with woven resin manufacturer Viro, which supplies fibers specifically designed and engineered for outdoors using non-toxic, 100% recyclable materials. Johan Yang, vice president of Viro Fibers said his company was pleased to work with Global Surroundings to make this fashion-forward collection. “Incorporating reclaimed teak into their designs with the Viro (woven material) continues the theme of sustainable furniture design,” Yang said.

“Climate change around the world is real and it is happening every day,” Jackson said. “The furniture industry historically has been responsible for harvesting our forests. We are at the forefront of the movement to utilize reclaimed teak wood from old buildings in Indonesia.”

JL and Jay Jackson founded Global Surroundings in 1998 after living and traveling several years throughout Southeast Asia. They purchase old teak homes in Java, Indonesia, and Global Surroundings builds new furniture from old wood and woven resin fibers without damage to the rainforest.
