Jaipur Rugs earns social accountability certification for India facility

Jaipur Rugs’ manufacturing facility in Jaipur, India has been certified to the Social Accountability International SA 8000 Workplace and Human Rights Standards.
Jaipur is the first company in India with Design, Development, Manufacturing and Export of Handmade Carpets and Floor Coverings scope, and became the 11th carpet company to receive SA 8000 certification in India. The certification covers Jaipur’s factory, which employs more than 40,000 people across the country. The facility also conducts various on-site awareness and training programs, and works with the Indian government on social initiatives.
“This certification is the latest example of Jaipur’s commitment to ensure the company’s operations protect both its workforce and the environment,” said Asha Chaudhary, CEO of Jaipur Rugs, Inc. “We value the dedication and commitment of our employees and want to make certain that they work in an environment that is safe and values their well-being."
SA 8000 is a globally recognized standard, based on International Labor Organization conventions and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on Rights of the Child. The standard focuses on child labor, forced labor, health and safety, freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, discrimination, disciplinary practices, working hours, compensation and the implementation of an efficient management system.

Jaipur Rugs is the first and only company to get the SA 8000 with the scope which has been mentioned. kindly check. Jaipur Rugs is definitely not the only company to get SA 8000 certification, but first with this scope! hope this is clear.

It is absolutely false statement to say that no other carpet company in India has SA 8000 certification.
Obeetee Private Limited is SA 8000 certified since 2004 and was the first company in Indian floor covering Industry to get that. Obeetee, having successfully completed the certification period of three years (with all the scheduled surveillance audits) has obtained re-certification in November 2007 and remain certified.
