Despite the ongoing recession, Three Coins Castings continues with its tradition of donating products to local charities following markets in Las Vegas, Atlanta and High Point, N.C.
Like many U.S. manufacturers, the business experienced a drop in sales during 2009, but its dedication to making the best product possible, hard work and charitable giving led to a profitable year nonetheless, TC Castings’ owner Susanna Powell said
“Supporting local charities through product donation is a win/win situation in every way,” Powell said. Since her parents closed Three Coins Import and passed product and customers to her new company in 2006, “We have been able to support the American Cancer Society, The Georgia Transplant Foundation and many smaller local charities,” she said.
“My whole life I have seen the generosity of my mother Linda Lanier Ramsey in giving. Both personally and as a business owner, she always supported charitable giving,” Powell said. “My Grandfather Thomas Lanier founded Oxford Industries in Atlanta, and was known for his support of the Arts and charitable giving. Last year when things were tough, it was charitable giving that kept the good vibes going for me personally as I attacked multiple jobs at the company. We came out of a tough year in a great position and are ready to continue to grow.”
This year, TC Castings is introducing contemporary furniture product, new accessories and occasional tables that can be used indoors as well as outdoors.
“I decided to invest in new product because I have seen the potential in my company, and am listening to what my customers want,” Powell said. “Our classic furniture styles are such strong sellers yet we will move into the future with some streamlined modern furniture. We are working on that now for introduction this spring.
“As a company, we have held our pricing for the past two and a half years while at the same time upgraded the quality of our product,” she said.
In addition to diversifying its product line, TC Castings is using certified 316 recycled aluminum and upgrading its paint finishes. “We look forward to the new decade, are proud to have maintained our longtime customer base and look forward to adding more,” she said.
Gifts In Kind managed donations of exhibit items from TC Castings and about 50 other exhibitors after the HD Expo in Las Vegas last year. The donated exhibit items were valued at more than $150,000, which benefited local nonprofits in the Las Vegas area.
From a business perspective, product donation offers benefits such as significant tax breaks, supply chain solutions and cost savings, enhancement of a company's brand and reputation as a good corporate citizen and the opportunity to cut corporate waste.
Gifts In Kind specializes in distributing products to qualified charities and provides the consolidated tax documents that are needed to maximize a company's tax benefits.
