Meadowcraft makes plant changes
-- Casual Living, 2/1/2008 12:00:00 AM
Meadowcraft is making wrought iron furniture in its Wadley, Ala., plant, and using its Birmingham, Ala., facility as a Research and Design Center, President Jerry Camp announced.
The Birmingham plant still serves as Meadowcraft's customer service and administrative hub while its cushions and umbrellas continue to be manufactured in Selma, Ala.
“This transformation will allow for more efficient operations and continue to make us a stronger and more viable competitor in the world market,” Camp said. “This change, along with process improvements, will significantly add to Meadowcraft's sustainability program.”
Over the past five years, Meadowcraft invested $20 million dollars in capital projects and human resources as well as teamed with suppliers to meet its goal of being a world class outdoor furniture manufacturer. Meadowcraft's engineers and production associates have implemented lean manufacturing techniques to improve product quality and productivity while continuing to minimize natural resource consumption.
