Casual furniture manufacturers expand, four add showrooms

By Staff -- Casual Living, 8/1/2004 12:00:00 AM

Nine existing casual furnishings showrooms have expanded and four other casual furnishings vendors have opened showrooms on the 16th and 17th floors of The Merchandise Mart, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. announced.

MMPI also will convert the entire 7th floor to Market Suites from its previous use as Chicago Transit Authority headquarters. In 2005, current 2nd floor temporary exhibitors will be relocated to the 7th floor, which allows for a 100,000-sq.-ft. expansion of exhibit space.

"The Mart's expansion for the Chicago Casual Market in 2005 coincides with the casual furnishings industry's continued growth,' said John H. Brennen III, executive vice president MMPI.

Gensun, the AnacaraCompany, Fire Stone Home Products and Accents by Shae, a division of Pacific Casual, moved into The Merchandise Mart in July, collectively occupying more than 8,000 square feet. The addition brings The Mart's residential/casual floors into 100% occupancy, while fulfilling retailers and designers desire to shop one location with the most products offered, and to satisfy the growing trend of living and entertaining outdoors.
