New company Lawndry creates designer covers for outdoor furnishings

Company awards consumer with back yard makeover

-- Casual Living, 1/2/2008 8:27:00 AM

Protecting outdoor furnishings and preserving a desired look for outdoor spaces should always be in style no matter the season. Adorning outdoor furnishings should be a design statement that surpasses the desired function, according to CEO Bertie Ray III and Drew Dearwester, chief design officer, of Lawndry, the latest entry into the outdoor coverings industry.

“Furniture covers have been available for some time, but the challenge we faced as consumers was to obtain ones that added to the beauty of the backyard,” Ray said. “What was available did the exact opposite.”

For 2008, Lawndry introduces a crisp, clean concept in outdoor living with vivid colors and vibrant patterns. Utilizing original art and photography from interior designer Drew Dearwester, Lawndry has created 10 varieties of furniture covers in eight distinct patterns as well as an air conditioner cover. Everything needed to outfit grills, tables, chairs, umbrellas, fire pits and other patio furniture is available from this new company.

Art meets function when Dearwester’s art of flora and stripes is emblazoned across top-of-the-line vinyl using 21st century technology and digital imaging. The construction of Lawndry’s covers, which retail for $40 (air conditioner cover) to $135 (chaise), provides the desired durability as well as beauty.

“With our designs and quality reproduction, we feel confident customers within the casual industry will be able to offer homeowners something that has not been available to date,” Dearwester said. The company’s plans for the future include the expansion of items in the line as well as other options for drawing the beauty and uniqueness of interior decor into the exterior spaces.

In related news, the company featured an Internet sweepstakes last fall and Betty Curran of Omaha, Neb., was announced today as the winner of a $500 backyard makeover by Dearwester. The design team from Lawndry will consult with Curran and her family to produce the design plan that best outfits her outer spaces.

"This was a total shock,” Curran said. “It is a great product that I would never have thought to have purchased for myself.”
