Crypton expands fiber options with Bella-Dura
Energy savings behind partnership

Crypton recently reformulated all of its commercial fabrics to MBDC Silver Cradle-to-Cradle certified chemistry and has now expanded high performance fabric Crypton Green to include Bella-Dura fiber.
“We’ve been trying to do more life-cycle thinking, taking into account the fiber and fabric production, product longevity, and end-of-use,” said Craig Rubin, co-founder of Crypton. “The most compelling reasons for pairing Bella-Dura with Crypton Green are energy savings and durability out of doors.”
Bella-Dura, a proprietary fiber with the performance attributes inherent in the fiber itself, is a logical addition to Crypton Green.
Particularly appropriate for applications where lightfastness is of utmost importance, Bella-Dura, also offers numerous environmental benefits. Chief among them is reduced energy consumption (9% less than polyester and 39% less than nylon 6) because Bella-Dura is manufactured at a lower temperature and requires fewer materials. Moreover, its lower specific gravity (fiber density) means less fiber is required to obtain a comparable level of fabric coverage.
“Having studied its merits, we’re thrilled to expand Crypton Green to include Bella-Dura fiber. It’s an example of how we are striving to provide increasingly sustainable products,” said Randy Rubin, co-founder of Crypton.
“Imagine a world where you do not have to choose between performance, indoors or outdoors, or the environment,” Bella-Dura President and CEO Irwin Gasner added.
The pursuit of excellence encrypted in Crypton’s DNA provides the driving force behind Crypton Green, the industry’s first and only optimized high-performance textile system. Crypton Green offers a responsible solution that exceeds industry standards for indoor air quality and optimized materials. It is the only performance fabric to claim certifications from both Scientific Certification Systems and MBDC, with Gold Indoor Advantage honors from SCS and MBDC’s Silver Cradle-to-Cradle distinction, becoming the first high-performance fabric construction to be awarded. All Crypton fabrics are constructed for long-lasting beauty; have an integrated moisture barrier; and are formulated with new, optimized chemistry for stain, liquid, bacteria and odor resistance.
