Char-Broil names CEO, partners with TEC

Staff -- Casual Living, 8/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

Alan Shaw joined W.C. Bradley Co. as chief executive officer of Char-Broil Aug. 1, the company announced. Shaw brings 18 years of experience as a consumer durables executive, primarily with the Whirlpool Corporation.

"We are excited about the broad-based leadership experience Alan brings to Char-Broil with a strong track record in doing business with big box retailers, global sourcing and product management," Steve Butler, W.C. Bradley chairman and CEO, said.

"Alan Shaw's outstanding international background will be invaluable as he leads the Char-Broil team in the development of their new business model," added Brad Turner, president of Bradley.

Char-Broil also has partnered with Thermal Engineering Corporation for a new patented version of TEC's 100% infrared cooking system, which will lead to a series of grills available to consumers and national retailers in 2007.

Char-Broil will be the first large-scale grill manufacturer to utilize TEC's patented infrared cooking system and also the first widely-distributed manufacturer to offer the benefits of infrared cooking at more affordable price points (i.e., below $1,000).

"The future of the grilling industry is TEC's infrared because it makes food taste better and cooks food like charcoal but with the convenience of gas," Turner said.

TEC invented the high-efficiency, long-lasting ceramic infrared burner in 1961.

In the 1980s, TEC began using its infrared expertise to improve the efficiency of commercial cooking equipment, and in 1982 patented the first gas grill with an infrared burner below the cooking grate.
