Tropitone roof damaged by heavy rains

No employees were injured

-- Casual Living, 1/20/2010 10:57:00 AM

Tropitone Furniture’s Irvine, Calif., facility was closed Jan. 19 after a 25x50-ft. section of the roof was damaged by heavy rains. There were no injuries.

“At approximately 1:30 pm PST, the torrential rains that have pounded Southern California the last few days caused a collapse of a section of the roof in a portion of our manufacturing facility,” Tropitone CEO Cap Hendrix said. “Fortunately, no one was injured. We are in the process of assessing and repairing the damage and will have a more definitive response as soon as possible.”

The damage was contained to a section of the manufacturing portion of the approximately 200,000-sq.-ft. facility, which also houses Tropitone’s corporate offices. The office portion of the facility will also be closed temporarily pending full assessment of safety and essential services.

“Although there was no damage to the office areas or the vast majority of the manufacturing facility, safety is our top priority,” Hendrix said. “We will resume full operations once we are assured our people are safe and essential services are available.”

Tropitone also has full manufacturing facilities in Sarasota, Fla. Both the Irvine and Sarasota facilities produce all essential Tropitone products to allow redundant capabilities.

“Although we are confident that the Irvine facility will be fully functioning very soon, we have the ability to produce and ship products to all customers from either location,” Hendrix said. “Having two full service manufacturing facilities, one on each Coast, is an essential part of our strategy. In fact, we just signed a new five-year lease for our Sarasota facility.”

Tropitone requests that its customers communicate directly with their sales representatives until an announcement that the corporate office is fully operable.
