{Still} hip to be square

trends

Chris Gigley & Courtney M. Paschal -- Casual Living, 11/1/2008 12:00:00 AM

A number of designers added curves to their contemporary outdoor furniture lines last year, but the 2008 International Casual Furniture & Accessories Market featured more blocky looks than ever before. Straight lines and right angles may be nothing new in contemporary, but consumers can't seem to get enough.

Whitecraft
Whitecraft's Cannes lounge chair offers the familiar sleek and boxy contemporary look born out of European design houses. The high-density polyethylene, all-weather collection includes an armless sectional unit, sectional chaise unit, corner unit, end table and cocktail table.

La-Z-Boy Select's Kingswood Collection sectional and ottoman feature crisp, clean frames, patent-pending memory foam cushions and Sun Isle weave options. The collection includes tables, seating and dining pieces, including an outdoor recliner, all available in custom colors and fabrics.

Rock Wood
Created by furniture designer Philip Behrens, Rock Wood's Oasis pool chaise features Viro fiber woven in a herringbone pattern partnered with teak.

Ebel introduced its Marseille Collection in a new color, Seashell, as well as a new arm option — one that is boxier and more contemporary.

The Cuba bistro set The Cuba bistro set from Emu presents sharp, dynamic lines in an ergonomic design, creating a contrast between form and function.

The transitional Seville Collection from Castelle, part of Pride Family Brands, incorporates handcrafted woven aluminum back styling with ultra-comfortable double-sized cushioning for a stunning dining collection. Seating is available in stationary and action designs.
