Tried and true

Courtney Mueller -- Casual Living, 11/1/2004 12:00:00 AM

Classic and traditional, wood furniture has stood the test of time in the outdoor industry. More options have emerged in the wood category — retailers and consumers can choose from teak and shorea to Brazilian Cherry, cedar and more — much of this is due to a movement toward eco-friendly product. Design isn't at a lack, either, as deep seating, folding pieces, bar height options and picnic-style tables and chairs come to the forefront.

Adirondack dining chairs surround the 54-inch round extension table from igarden, all constructed of Brazilian Cherry.

Designed by Philip Behrens, the High Dining Butterfly Table from Tyndall Creek is accompanied by Sullivan Bar Stools and features a 20-inch Brazilian Cherry butterfly extension.

Gloster's Bristol Round Gateleg Table in teak has foldable sides to transform into a smaller buffet table and easy storage capability.

With a subtle ergonomic curved design, the Riviera Collection from Haste Garden, constructed of Robinia wood, features a complete outdoor grouping, from a loveseat and three-seat bench to a recliner and extra-wide table.

The settee rocker, single rocker and conversation table in a blackwash finish from Uwharrie Chair is set apart by unique detailing on a traditional set, part of the Hatteras Collection.

The Southseas Bed, part of the Tommy Bahama Collection from Brown Jordan International, marries teak and woven materials for a luxurious outdoor haven.

Barlow Tyrie merges contemporary elements with traditional design for the Metzo dining table line with a teak frame and tempered glass drop-in inserts.

Regal and refined, the Equinox Collection from Triconfort combines teak, aluminum and canvas for a classically simple statement.

From Janus et cie, simplicity and modernism merge in the Balance Chaise/Low Bench with a two-position recline back and pillow, constructed of teak, stripped steel and cast aluminum wheels.

The Tofino Folding Armchair from Creative Woodwork International features a checkboard pattern constructed of eucalyptus with brass metal components.

The Loveseat Glider from Boston Brook is constructed of Northern white cedar highlighted by a fine texture and classic aged look.

The new Mahogany Collection from Alexander Rose includes the Charleston dining set that will develop a deep red color if treated or mellow to silver gray for an antique look.

The Cedar Adirondack Chair, Footrest and Side Table from Great American Woodies all are constructed from premium Western Red Cedar with a double-dipped oil stain, featuring Adirondack-styling with a rounded back and wide arms.

The Cherrywood Bar Table by Southern Cross Trading has a slat-cut design on the table, chairs and stools, available in dining height options, and complemented by forest green, royal blue, black or natural cushions.

The perfect outdoor accessory, RockWood Casual's teak Alaska Ice Chest will provide easy access to chilled summertime beverages patio- or poolside.

The Algarve Deep Seating group from Kingsley Bate pairs a solid teak frame with Sunbrella cushions for a comfortable and complete upscale lounging set outdoors.
