Count on June warming trend
Count on June warming trend
-- Casual Living, 6/1/2008 12:00:00 AM
Last June brought the month’s coldest temperatures in three years, with 59% of the nation trending colder than the prior year. The weather leading up to the July 4th holiday was very cool in many parts of the nation, and resulted in 108 new record-low temperatures being set. Rainfall was excessive across the South Central states and Florida, where many places saw more than 2 feet of rain. Texas was particularly hard hit as flooding rains kept people indoors and out of their backyard living spaces.
This year, June 2008 will be warmer across the East and South. Building replenishment plans for 2008 based on what happened in 2007 may result in deficiencies of in-stock seasonal items this month across Texas and the East Coast.
A warmer June following a cold May is a signal for strong demand. The July 4th holiday week will be one of the hottest final weeks of June in 16 years across the East and South. With the hot weather around the holiday, plan on increased sales of misters, fans and pool toys.
