Decorative trimmings supplier Phoenix Trim Works recently signed licensing agreements for a line of products under the Sunbrella brand name and with designer Joe Ruggiero.
The Williamsport, Pa.-based company's offerings of cords, fringe, braids, bullion, tie-backs and tassels will complement Sunbrella fabrics by Ruggiero, a nationally recognized home furnishings designer and HGTV personality.
"I have wanted to expand the line to give a more varied choice of fringe and tassels for my customers who are looking for both traditional and transitional adornments," Ruggiero said.
Sunbrella's exclusive throw licensee, Textillery, also expanded its collection of high-performance throws by adding contemporary stripe designs with vibrant color combinations and a mixture of yarns at the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C.
"Our licensed Sunbrella Collection offers tremendous sales opportunities to home furnishings and accessories retailers and designers," said Judith Rose, head designer, Textillery Weavers. "In addition to the strong brand awareness and solid reputation the Sunbrella name carries, the high performance features of Sunbrella yarns ensure that our signature colors and textures stay vibrant and fresh for years."
In his seventh year of licensing home furnishings, Ruggiero continues to expand his lines with the goal of helping consumers make better choices.
"What's so important about licensing is that no man is an island," Ruggiero said. "I just happen to have wonderful collaborators and wouldn't have it any other way." Building a sense of teamwork is crucial to successful licensing, he said.
Ruggiero introduced his 8th collection with Sunbrella fabrics at the April Home Furnishings Market in High Point, N.C. He also added to his lighting lines by Orbit, upholstery by Norwalk and case goods by Caperton Furniture Works. Ruggiero's fabric collections for Sunbrella continue to innovate in the indoor/outdoor category and are being distributed by Silverstate Textiles. Ruggiero's second book of Sunbrella fabrics, "Design Elements" was introduced recently along with a collection of Sunbrella fabrics for Calico Corners.
"Joe has a unique presence in the home furnishings industry" said Bill Gibbons, CEO of Phoenix Trim Works. "His media exposure through the HGTV network and countless shelter magazine articles, combined with an outstanding talent for design has made him a household name."
Dave Swers, furniture products manager for Glen Raven Custom Fabrics, the makers of Sunbrella fabrics, said the need for trims has grown steadily with the growth of Sunbrella fabrics in home furnishings applications. "Phoenix will be an excellent resource to the trade for trimmings that complement the colors and design aesthetics of our fabrics and assure Sunbrella performance characteristics," Swers said.
