Derek Fell to present free online garden design workshop

Photographer, author and garden expert to share his knowledge on Aug. 25

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 8/6/2010 8:12:00 AM

Derek Fell, nationally recognized garden design expert, photographer and author will present a free online workshop at 2 p.m. ET on Aug. 25.
The 60-minute interactive presentation will feature 40 minutes of teaching followed by a 20-minute question and answer section in conjunction with Horticulture Magazine, which covers planning, designing and creating balance in gardens and landscapes. The question and answer period will allow attendees to ask candid questions directly to Fell in real time.
As a leading authority on garden design inspired by Impressionist art, Fell will weave his expertise on the design and care of Impressionist gardens into his live online presentation.
The flower, vegetable and water gardens that appear in the works of Monet, Van Gogh and Cezanne contain a rich history and are a joy to recreate, he said. As a scholar and expert author in this area, Fell will offer his advice on how to plant a garden fit for a masterpiece. "Monet planted his garden to paint," Fell said. "And I design my gardens to photograph." Not only the most awarded member of the Garden Writers Association of America, Fell also is a noted garden photographer. Fell plans also to offer tips on capturing the beauty of gardens and landscapes through photography.
As a leading expert with garden books totaling more than 2.5 million in print, plus a photo library containing over 150,000 images, Fell is rarely so easily available to such a wide audience and almost never free of charge. He is a highly sought contributor for publications including Home and Garden Television, The Outdoor Living Channel and PBS and writes for Architectural Digest, Veranda, Royal Horticultural Society Magazine, Garden Design, Hemispheres, American Nurseryman.
As Fell serves as a garden design consultant for the White House Gardens as well as several luxury tourist destinations, this is a rare opportunity to interact with one of the most prolific garden designers of this century. "Derek rarely provides free seminars and we are pleased to offer gardening enthusiasts everywhere this opportunity to gain a wealth of information, insight and ideas that they can then use to create their own gardens," said Patty Craft, publisher and editorial director of Horticulture Magazine. "And, with the ability to ask Derek questions during the live workshop; it's an event not to be missed!"
Fell's latest endeavor to create breathtaking gardens is his release of the Derek Fell Collection, a complete line of garden structures and outdoor furniture directly inspired from Impressionist paintings. CedarStore.com, the manufacturer of this groundbreaking collection, will be sponsoring the workshop and offering a coupon to all attendees to save 10% on any of his designs.
The live webinar is limited to the first 1,000 registrants. Any individuals over the registration limit will have access to a recording of the workshop following the presentation. The recording also will be available for repeat reference by all registrants.
