Telescope Casual CEO Kathy Juckett joins wood products council

Advisory group to provide N.Y. governor with environmental, economic and social benefits of state's forest product industries

Kathy Juckett, CEO of Telescope Casual Furniture, was named a member of the New York state Wood Products Development Council.
The Wood Products Development Council was created as a result of an amendment to the Agriculture and Markets Law to expand the duties of the N.Y. Department of Agriculture and Markets to encourage and support the practice of forestry and manufacture of wood products. Its members will provide economic, social and environmental benefits for New York, while improving the effectiveness of government programs and the quality of life in upstate communities. Since the late nineteenth century, the size of New York's forest has increased steadily to the point where more than 60% of the state is now covered by forest. About 47,000 New Yorkers work in the forest products industry, earning approximately $2 billion in high-paying jobs in small rural communities.
Representing all stakeholders, from lumber to maple syrup, from forest owners to furniture manufacturers, Ms. Juckett and the Council will advise the Governor on forest products policy, raise public awareness of the benefits of a healthy forest product industry, provide technical assistance to forest product businesses, help ensure that forest resources are put to beneficial use, and develop the wider value-added forest product industry.
"I am very pleased and honored to serve on the Wood Products Development Council," Juckett said. "Forest products link value-added manufacturing and processing with environmental good sense because the industry serves as a steward of New York's forests. Proper forestry yields clean water and air, removes greenhouse gases and prevents or mitigates natural disasters like floods and wildfires."
The manufacturing and sale of forest products is a key component of the upstate economy. The opportunity to realize this economic growth will be facilitated by the Council by nurturing and managing this crucial resource. Increasing New York's hardwood forest industry will provide more good paying jobs and invigorate the economies of rural communities.
The industry is characterized by family and multi-generational ownerships. Juckett is a member of the fourth generation of Vandermindens to lead Telescope Casual Furniture.
