Brown Jordan International joins Sustainable Furnishings Council

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 9/1/2010 8:11:00 AM

With its new membership in the Sustainability Furnishings Council, Brown Jordan International, Inc. has taken another step toward becoming one of the most environmentally responsible companies in the outdoor living industry.

Formed in 2006, the SFC promotes best sustainable practices and assists companies in adopting them. It boasts more than 400 corporate members, including retailers, manufacturers, designers and suppliers. Its president, Jeff Hiller, said adding BJI to its membership was a no-brainer.

"Not only have they made investments to develop the right types of products, BJI also invested in education for key staff, who gained accreditation in the SFC's GreenLeaders Certified Sustainability Training program," Hiller said. "They are an outstanding example that even the largest companies can take major steps toward improving the sustainability of their operations at all levels."

GreenLeaders certified sustainability training gives participants knowledge and credentials to become experts in sustainability. The six-unit program covers a wide range of topics, including sourcing green products and
designing and operating green interiors.

"We have been developing a culture that supports sustainability in all aspects of our business for many years now," said BJI president Chris Carmicle. "This membership and accreditation for employees is a logical step as we continue to do our part towards developing a cleaner future around us."
