Trex Company inks licensing partnership with Poly-Wood

Furniture to be available in November

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 9/15/2010 5:16:23 PM

TrexOutdoor_WhiteW.jpgTrex Company, a leading manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, railing, fencing and trim products, has entered into a licensing agreement with Syracuse, Ind.-based Poly-Wood, Inc., to develop and market stylish and comfortable outdoor furniture.

The Trex Outdoor Furniture collection will include 26 exclusive designs across four different product lines to complement low-maintenance and eco-friendly Trex outdoor living spaces.

TrexOutdoor_Deep_W.jpgFeaturing craftsmanship with an emphasis on comfort, the introductory Trex Outdoor Furniture collection will include seating options such as adirondack chairs, ottomans, settees, sofas and chaise lounges as well as coffee tables, side tables and dining sets. Each piece will be available in six distinctive colors - including Vintage Lantern, Tree House, Classic White and Charcoal Black - that may be mixed and matched with Trex Transcend decking and railing for a completely customized outdoor living space. The line will boast Trex's signature curved look, thermoformed contours and generous seat widths, as well as cushions and pillows in a range of Sunbrella fabrics.

TrexOutdoor_Brown_W.jpg"This partnership is a significant potential growth driver for Trex, as it will strategically expand our brand presence in the outdoor living arena and position us to drive consumer awareness and acceptance of the emerging high-performance outdoor furniture segment," said Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. "With this launch, we'll not only offer additional profitable product options to our existing professional partners - but we'll also have the opportunity to enter new distribution channels and retail locations."

True to the brand's green heritage, Trex Outdoor Furniture will be an environmentally responsible choice. Created from Poly-Wood's blend of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) raw materials, the furniture is manufactured from more than 90% recycled content including post-consumer materials, such as milk jugs and laundry detergent bottles.

Durable and weather-resistant, Trex Outdoor Furniture features the same low maintenance and durability as the core Trex product line. It won't rot, splinter or crack, and - unlike wood furniture - doesn't require staining,
sealing, painting or refinishing to remain looking beautiful over time.

Additionally, Trex Outdoor Furniture shares the same enhanced benefits as the high-performance Trex Transcend product line with exceptional resistance to food spills, insects, mold and mildew, salt spray and other environmental elements often encountered in backyards and on patios, decks and beaches. A five-year residential warranty offers extra protection for consumers.

"Poly-Wood and Trex are both proven leaders in the outdoor living industry, and we share a commitment to superior performance and aesthetics - as well as environmental consciousness," said Doug Rassi, owner of Poly-Wood. "We're confident that this will be a strategic opportunity to dominate a rapidly growing product category and launch an outdoor furniture collection that is relevant to the needs of consumers."

Trex Outdoor Furniture will be available at retail and to the trade in November.

Since 1990, Poly-Wood, Inc. has been a leader in developing high-performance, eco-friendly casual outdoor furniture with plastic lumber. Today Poly-Wood occupies more than 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Its plastic lumber extrusion process is modern and efficient - utilizing 3-D design, CNC fabrication and lean manufacturing techniques. Poly-Wood now offers thousands of SKUs and ships a majority of its furniture next day. For more information, visit www.polywoodinc.com or www.trex.com.
