Full-Line Furniture Store Survey for 2016

Full-line furniture stores are finding success in selling outdoor furniture. In fact, the majority of stores project outdoor furniture sales this year will increase by a whopping median of 12%. That sunny sales forecast stems from the 150 furniture stores answering Casual Living ’s exclusive 2016 Furniture Stores Survey.
Nationally, outdoor furniture accounts for 2% of total sales in a full-line furniture store and 2% of total selling space. The majority offer outdoor products seasonally. Understandably, the months of May through August are the peak times for furniture stores to carry them. Retailers in Florida, the deep South and Southwestern states, including Arizona and California, are more likely to offer outdoor furniture year-round.
Casual Living’s 2016 Furniture Store Survey looks at outdoor furniture merchandise mix data within the full-line furniture store channel. Companies representing 150 storefronts participated in the survey. Data reflects the fiscal year ending closest to December 31, 2015.
Responding stores include full-line furniture stores, product and style specialty stores and manufacturer branded stores. All regions of the country are represented. Twenty percent of responding furniture stores reported 2015 total sales of less than $5 million; 35% between $2 million and $19.9 million; 10% between $20 and $49.9 million; and 35% of respondents reported 2015 total sales of $50 million or more.
