HIGH POINT, N.C. — To emphasize its determination to manufacture and preserve jobs in America, Charleston Forge is displaying in its High Point Market showroom an American flag from a World War II U.S. warship.
The flag flew on the U.S.S. Greiner, on which the father-in-law of Art Barber, CEO of Charleston Forge, served during WWII.

USS Greiner
"It reminds us of the sacrifices made by so many Americans who give their lives to protect the privileges we enjoy today," Barber said. "It symbolizes how lucky we are to have the freedom to live, work and play in such a great country. It calls out to all who pass by that our furniture is made in America."
Charleston Forge is showing in Market Square, space 110A. The N.C.-based company produces hand-forged furniture including tables, chairs, barstools, benches, beds and bakers racks, combining hand-planed solid wood, granite, glass and other elements with forged metal.
"We're passionate about what we make and where we make it and it hurts to see so many jobs lost from this country," Barber said. "It's not easy being in business here but business is not easy anywhere. To compete with the world in our industry, we have to be innovative, fashion-focused, passionate, efficient and constantly evolving. We're actually seeing an increase in orders and have expansion plans so it's obvious to us that our market likes what we are doing."
In High Point, Charleston Forge will be showing table tops made from molded glass, and mirror frames and table tops made from reclaimed wood. Old pine boards used as shelving in a Dutch cheese factory are now used for shelving boards on handmade display trolleys. A local artist has been commissioned to design a line of jewelry that combines the same elements and techniques they use in furniture making.
