Furniture Classics celebrates 20th anniversary

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 6/27/2011 10:52:56 AM

Furniture Classics Limited is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2011. To highlight this milestone, the company will offer themed market specials during the summer markets of Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, July 13-20, and the Las Vegas Market, Aug. 1-5.

Additionally, heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served in the afternoons, and refreshments - including the trademark frozen margarita - are available all day.

Furniture Classics was founded by R. Douglas Ricks in 1991 and has grown steadily to become a global source of traditional and transitional furnishings distributed to a variety of wholesale channels. Originally specializing in hand-carved 18th century mahogany reproductions, the product line has grown to include reproductions of 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century furniture, refurbished antiques, rustic items of reclaimed timber and metals, upholstery and leather. This assortment, coupled with the outdoor seating and casual lifestyle offerings of its Two Palms Casual brand, gives Furniture Classics one of the broadest product offerings found in the industry.

Furniture Classics plans to significantly add to its product assortment during markets in 2011. "The timing is right," said President Michael Ricks. "We were fortunate to benefit from new customer growth during the recent recession. From the design trade and lifestyle specialty stores to independent retailers and top 100 accounts, our customer base has expanded across the board. This is due in part to our broad and diverse product line, but also to our continued focus on value pricing. Our product and pricing, coupled with our commitment to keeping a strong domestic inventory, makes Furniture Classics a profitable and dependable resource. With continued strength in the business climate, we feel that now is the time to catapult forward with our most aggressive product launch ever."

The company will preview some new products at the upcoming summer markets. High Point Market will serve as the vehicle for the complete product launch with expanded display space and "new items numbering three to four times our normal market introductions," according to Ricks.

When asked about recent success and growth, Ricks explained that a lot of new customers came aboard by referral. He cites comments from several current customers as indicative of why they look to the company.

Austin Turner, owner of Turner Furniture, describes Furniture Classics as "what our customer desires, and the prices make it an outstanding value." Longtime customer Wolfe Furniture has been buying the line for more than a decade and enjoys the "fresh fun items that add interest to our showrooms," according to Doug Wolfe, president. Rotman's Furniture also sources from the diverse line and buyer Joanne Born describes working with Furniture Classics as an "everyday experience (which) could not be smoother in making my long days easier."

Furniture Classics will exhibit in Atlanta in Building 1, Space 13, F-11 and in Las Vegas in Building A, Space 409.
