Sunbrella named title sponsor for USA Cycling-sanctioned event

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 8/30/2011 10:52:23 AM

Sunbrella has been named title sponsor for the 2011 Labor Day Omnium/Tour de La France and Celebrate Anderson community event, Sept. 2-4, which will feature USA Cycling and US Handcycling sanctioned professional bicycle racing, family cycling and a free patriotic concert and fireworks.

"This event is an ideal sponsorship for us given our focus on associate wellness at our Anderson Plant manufacturing center," said Jack Woodson, director of operations. "Our associates are actively engaged in all types of exercise, including cycling, and many of us will take part in the individual and family bike event."

As title sponsor, the Sunbrella brand will be displayed prominently throughout the race course, from posters and banners to t-shirts and online. Glen Raven associates will assist with volunteer staffing during the bike races while also providing information on Sunbrella fabrics.

"We could not have asked for a better title sponsor than Sunbrella fabrics," said Angie Stringer, executive director of the Labor Day events in Anderson, S.C. "Glen Raven has been an essential part of Anderson County for decades, and the company's commitment to community involvement and promoting a healthier workforce aligns perfectly with our goals for the racing events and community celebration."

More than 200 professional cyclists representing more than 10 countries are anticipated for three days of racing. The Anderson races are listed as one of 30 national elite racing events by USA Cycling, the organization that governs all competitive cycling in the U.S. Additionally, the event is also one of only 25 events on the US Handcycling Series calendar. A family and individual cycling event is scheduled for Sept. 3.

"One of our most important goals is to position Anderson County as a premium venue for professional cycling and the place to be for Labor Day," Stringer said. "The natural beauty of the Anderson County countryside and support from corporations such as Glen Raven are helping us make this goal a reality. We are also excited about the opportunity to promote cycling as a healthy activity for individuals and families."
