High Point Market to feature ‘Six Causes That Matter'

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 9/22/2011 12:43:25 PM

The High Point Market will sponsor a "Six Causes That Matter" campaign benefiting six charities during the fall market as a complement to the market's tagline, "The Next Six Days That Matter."

Each day of market, Oct. 22-27, a charity will be spotlighted with opportunities for exhibitors and attendees to make donations.

Promotion of the charities will include signage, lapel pins, social media - including using the Twitter hash tag #hpmkt6causes - press alerts and more, according to the High Point Market Authority. Participating exhibitors will receive showroom signs to highlight their support of the day's cause.

"Last year, we saw so many companies who were involved in charitable giving on their own at market," said Cheminne Taylor-Smith, vice president of marketing for the Market Authority. "We wanted to organize a larger project that would coordinate and highlight the incredible work done not only by the charities themselves, but also by the companies in the home furnishings industry."

The Six Causes That Matter and their corresponding highlight days at the Oct. market are:

+ City of Hope, Oct. 22 (in memory of Center Point's Lynn Davis, who died in April)
+ Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Oct. 23
+ Habitat for Humanity, Oct. 24
+ American Red Cross, Oct. 25
+ National Furniture Bank, Oct. 26
+ Open Door Ministries, Oct. 27

Companies interested in participating can register online. More information about each of the charities is also available on the website.

The featured six causes were chosen because of their strong ties to the home furnishings industry, according to the Market Authority, which said it plans to continue the campaign throughout the year and offer other charities the opportunity to be involved.
