Surya hires Di Adamo to head product development

Surya, a manufacturer of area rugs and home accessories, has enlisted industry veteran Eva Di Adamo to head its product development team.

Di Adamo brings more than 20 years of experience in product development and merchandizing within the home accessories and fashion segments, "a combination that will add a new dimension" to Surya's product development process.

"Product development is core to our business and we are thrilled to have attracted such a high-caliber designer to the Surya team," said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. "Eva has designed some of the best-selling and most inspirational rugs and textiles in the industry. Under her leadership, Surya will continue to develop leading designs that meet the needs of the most discerning consumers while refining the classic designs that customers expect from Surya."

Di Amano will be interacting with customers, designers and partners at the Surya showroom in Showplace, Suite 3233, during the High Point Market from Oct. 22-27.

Surya also recently announced its latest partnership and licensing agreement with designer Mike Farrell.

Farrell is known for innovative, imaginative designs with playfulness and humor. During a visit to Argentina years ago, he was captivated by the Bohemian style and culture of the country, which drives many of his designs today. His career began in 1991 in New York City, where he worked with textile and home décor companies. Farrell said he saw a need in the market for free-thinking designers and was determined to make a change in the industry.

"We are more than excited to bring Mike Farrell on as an addition to our growing list of world-class designers," said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. "Farrell's imagination and innovation is exactly what we are looking for as we move the company into the future and position ourselves as trend-spotters on the leading edge of the industry."

Farrell will produce a line of area rugs for Surya, with edgy, young, fresh designs and colors. In the past, Farrell's designs have included graffiti and faces patterns that merge his innovation and unusual way of thinking about design. He is known for his creative "Amazed Art" and "Blue Home" installations at the High Point and Atlanta markets, and is the design and marketing director for Adesal Jacquards.

"Every installation I have done, and every line and collection I have designed comes from my heart, which is young and full of hope and adventures of the imagination," said Farrell. "Surya's first line of rugs by me will be very different and bring out the child within the adult, that place we must go to be creative and individual."
