Top 100 retailer shares secret of success at HFA Leadership Immersion Experience

Attendees praise breadth of knowledge and networking opportunities

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The Home Furnishings Association (HFA) facilitated its fourth Leadership Immersion Experience for its Next Generation Now community earlier this month. HFA Retailer of the Year and top retailer Josh Hudson hosted 12 next-generation retailers at Hudson’s Furniture in Sanford, Fla.

Immersion participants learned about Hudson’s daily operations and the company’s philosophy. Additionally, they were informed about key performance indicators, pricing and margins, salesmanship, human relations, compensation, customer service, marketing, warehouse safety and more.

“This experience was life changing. I took pages and pages of notes, each one valuable in its own way,” said HFA member Trevor McAllister of Jenner’s Furniture in Fort Mohave, Arizona. “The knowledge and networking we received is invaluable.”

Aiden Hegg of Klingman’s Furniture in Holland, Michigan, also treasured meeting peers. “One of the many highlights would be the tremendous networking opportunity it provided. The chance to have lengthy talks with retailers of all sizes on failures and successes was priceless.”

HFA’s Leadership Immersion Experiences are sponsored by STORIS, a leader in retail software solutions for the furniture, bedding, appliance and electronics industries.

“STORIS understands the value of training the next generation of furniture professionals and is happy to be signature sponsor of this program” said Kaitlin Surdoval, marketing manager, STORIS. The Retail Home Furnishings Foundation also stepped in to sponsor the registration fees of three of the participants.

The Leadership Immersion Experience was created in 2015 and has become one of the Association’s premiere education programs. Next Generation Now members have visited best-in-class retailers such as RC Willey in Salt Lake City, El Dorado Furniture in Miami, and American Furniture Warehouse in Englewood, Colo.
