Spruce Home & Garden, wholesaler-retailer, to open third store this week

Susan Dickenson (Home Accents Today) -- Casual Living, 11/9/2011 11:37:47 AM

Spruce Home & Garden, retailer and wholesaler of home décor and garden accessories, is opening a third retail location, at 90 Post Rd. in downtown Westport this Friday, Nov. 11, 2011. A pre-opening party will take place Thursday evening, Nov. 10 from 5-9 p.m., with more events planned for the coming weeks.

Spruce Home & GardenPresident Steven Wilburn described Spruce's merchandise as "an eclectic mix of garden and home products with a distinctive urban mix of contemporary and traditional." Products include home décor, garden containers and accessories, furniture, soft goods, artwork, books, jewelry and seasonal items.

The new store is in an historic building that once housed the Old Town Hall. "The Westport opening comes on the heels of our expansion into West Hartford earlier this month where we opened our second store at 973 Farmington Avenue," Wilburn said.

Ten percent of first night and first day sales will be donated to the Westport Historical Society. A custom t-shirt will also be available for purchase and 100% of the profits will be added to Spruce's donation.

Spruce Home & Garden"Spruce Home & Garden's emporium is always changing and ever-evolving with new merchandise hitting the floor every week," said Shannon Luszczak, director of stores. "We strive to keep our store alive with energy; most weekends are full of activities, special events, seminars and trunk shows. In my many years of retail, I have never had so many people want to be part of what we are doing. Customers come into the store and ask to be on our email list."

Spruce Home & Garden started in 2008 in New York as a wholesaler of garden pots and accessories. The company has wholesale showrooms in Atlanta and New York and plans to open more retail locations throughout the Northeast. Prior to starting Spruce, Wilburn had a 20-year career at Saks Fifth Avenue, where he served as director of merchandise presentation, director of stores and senior creative director. He then started and later sold his share in Holiday Image, a holiday décor company.
