MAISON&OBJET returns Jan. 20-24

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 1/9/2012 10:00:00 AM

MAISON&OBJET celebrates the works of international design teams and contributes to the emergence of home style as it returns to Paris for its Jan. 20-24 show.

Starting this month, MAISON&OBJET sets up permanent "Fil Vert" labeling to identify exhibitors' sustainable practices or "Green Attitude." A fundamental movement, parallel to general corporate empowerment, the "Green Attitude" embodied by Fil Vert covers economies of means (materials, transport, energy consumption), eco-responsibility (with 100% recyclable products, eco-design (linked to innovation and creation approaches) and eco-communication (enhancement of a sustainable development approach).

MAISON&OBJET also will recognize its 2012 Designers of the Year:

+ The Campana brothers - In the 1980s, Humberto founded a small studio of handmade products. An architect graduate, Fernando took an interest in alternative methods of materialising designs. In late 1983, they started to work together. This partnership has become one of the most famous in contemporary design. In 2001, Humberto and Fernando Campana won the Special Prize of the Museum da Casa Brasiliera (Brazilian home museum) and were appointed Designers of the Year in Miami in 2008 before winning the 2012 MAISON&OBJET designer of the year award.

+ Tokujin Yoshioka - Born in 1967, Yoshioka transcends the borders between design, architecture and installation. His designs are created as works of art. His most representative designs include the Honey-pop paper chair, the PANE chair, STARDUST and Stellar suspensions for the Swarovski Crystal Palace. He has worked with several major corporations including HERMES, BMW, MOROSO, TOYOTA and LEXUS. His designs are part of the permanent collections of the most famous museums in the world, notably the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris. His many awards include the Mainichi Design Award (2001), the Japanese Government's Encouragement Award in the Cultural Affairs section (2006), the title of Design Miami 2007 Designer of the Year Award, the title of Elle Déco International Design awards, the Tokyo Design & Art Envionmental Awards Artist of the Year 2010 and the A&W Architektur & Wohnen Designer of the year 2011 award.

+ Hubert le Gall - A trained artist, le Gall (born 1961) designs furniture that is sculpture and objects whose functional nature is erased by the charm of narrative or abstract form. "His approach consists in revisiting and giving new meaning to furniture and decorative art," writes Elisabeth Delacarte, director of the Avant-Scène, the Parisian showcase of his work. He models materials such as bronze, plaster, resin, wood, glass or ceramics to invent an original animal-furniture collection or plant poetic seeds designed to populate the loveliest interiors. His flower tables are iconic as are his lamps without feet that so effectively express his taste for illusion and deviation.

Services and events

Business Lounge, Hall 5B

At the Côté Déco Actuel sector in hall 5B, this hospitable area is dedicated to networking and business meetings. The different players in the profession may: take part in the different events organized (award ceremonies, debates and conferences, signings, cocktails etc.), work with special ARCHI DESIGNER labelled exhibitors, exchange with their counterparts and employees on their ideas, projects, new products and meet journalists from the trade press.

The Retail Space, Hall 5B

The retail world needs to adapt to more demanding, informed and volatile consumers as well as changes in consumer and purchasing resources (rise of e-commerce and m-commerce). To help deal with these issues, MAISON&OBJET has imagined the Retail space, dedicated to new retail layout solutions. Launched during the previous session, the Retail space is back with new proposals to reinvent the point of sale and re-enchant the customer.

Matériothèque, The Materials Library, Hall 5B

MatériO, the independent professional monitoring service in the field of materials and technology, presents new innovations with various possible applications.

For its fourth year, PARIS DES CHEFS will be held Jan. 22-24 at the Mutualité, in the heart of Paris. MAISON&OBJET takes a new step in sharing the home-style phenomenon even more broadly. A cultural phenomenon no longer confined to decoration alone but which encompasses all the expressions of the art of living, including new approaches to gastronomic creativity from more than 20 new chef and designer duos.
