Donald Flanders inducted into AHF Hall of Fame

Award accepted by his son, Dudley Flanders

GREENSBORO—Nearly 1,000 industry members gathered for the 29th annual American Home Furnishings Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Sheraton Four Seasons in Greensboro, N.C., last night.Donald Flanders inducted into AHF Hall of Fame

Joining the current 108 Hall of Fame members, four new members were inducted: Donald H. Flanders Sr., Lloyd Flanders, Inc.; Bernard D. Moray, Gorman’s Home Furnishings & Interior Design; Samuel Kuo, Samson Holding International; Vladimir Kagan, The Vladimir Kagan Design Group.

The event was special for the casual industry because the late Flanders, a veteran and innovator in the industry, was honored for his lifetime achievements.

“My father loved the industry, and he was a people person,” said Lloyd Flanders President Dudley Flanders, who accepted the award on behalf of his father. “Dad was blessed from the beginning to be supported by wonderful partners, suppliers and vendors. He respected everyone’s contributions, and we miss him.”

Donald Flanders began his career with two employees and his wife. He transformed outdoor furniture in 1985 when he introduced consumers to weather-resistant furniture that looked like traditional natural wicker. He acquired a Lloyd Loom factory, which weaves natural fiber made of twisted cellulose (paper) reinforced with aluminum stakes, and added a weatherproof coating, thus launching a new category that would become a backbone of the casual furnishings industry.
