CONOVER, N.C. — Zenith Global Logistics has opened a new freight hub in Elkton, Md., and added 25 trucks and 50 trailers to its fleet to meet increased demand for its services in the Northeast.
The new hub, located about 50 miles northeast of Baltimore, initially will offer less-than-truckload (LTL) service to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, but the company plans to expand the service area to include the entire Northeast, which it already services from its North Carolina facilities.
"These investments are designed to enable us to provide quicker, more targeted service to our customers in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states," said Jack Hawn, president and CEO, Zenith. "We've seen growth of more than 35% in the Northeast over the last year and our commitment to consistent, timely, accurate service demanded we expand our operations."
Hawn said the Elkton hub will especially benefit shippers who use the company's split container program. It will allow those customers to use that location to flow products destined for retailers in the Northeast, he said.
He said it also allows Zenith to remain compliant with the Compliance, Safety and Accountability program from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration by having the ability to hire regional drivers to operate within that market.
The Elkton facility is the seventh regional freight and home delivery hub Zenith has opened since 2009.
