HIGH POINT, NC — Adesal Jacquards and their design partner, Mike Farrell, are no strangers to innovative, out of the box thinking when it comes to  indoor and outdoor fabric and design.
In Adesal's latest endeavor they have raised the curtain to reveal something new, quite literally, capturing the beauty of a design originally created for a historic Buenos Aires opera house and bringing it to the USA.
Originally completed in 1908, The Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina is considered to be one of the top five opera houses in the world. Constructed during the height of Argentina's golden years, the entire theatre has just reopened after a massive, four year renovation with attention to every detail, including hundreds of horsehair stuffed seats to maintain its recognized and celebrated acoustics.
When it came to creating the opulent curtain for Colón, the city turned to local fabric manufacturer Adesal Jacquards. Called "the curtain for the next 100 years", the design was inspired by fine artist Guillermo Kuitca's stylistic interpretation of the original orchestra floor plan. Pablo Lacalle, president of Adesal Jacquards, accepted the task and the team at Adesal, including designers Fabiana Calcogno and Cecilia Martinez, worked tirelessly to complete the design.
Wanting to bring a touch of this lyrical magic back to the USA, Adesal asked for a fabric with the same rich construction and colors with a reinterpreted design from the original concept. The fabric, aptly named Aida, in honor of Giuseppe Verdi's work, which opened the first season in 1908, will come in two colors and is supported by a catalogue with photos and historical information.
The fabric will debut at Showtime, June 3-5 in High Point. A smaller recreated portion of the curtain itself will be displayed in the space.
