NEW YORK — America has got the blues when it comes to home décor. According to the first annual House Beautiful Color Report, blue is America's favorite color.
Published in the magazine's September issue, the report is based on the results of an online survey fielded from March 9 to May 31. More than 4,000 people took the survey, which also includes input from nearly 300 interior designers and more than 100 design bloggers.
The survey asked participants about their favorite colors, the color trends they think are overrated and their predictions for "the next hot color."
According to the survey, 29% of respondents listed blue as their favorite color in home décor, with green coming in second at 21%. Red and purple tied at 8%, followed by pink (7%), yellow and gray (6% each), white (5%), orange (4%), brown (3%) and black (2%).
"We're seeing a trend toward soothing colors in the home," House Beautiful Editor in Chief Newell Turner said in a statement. "Our study shows that people want to surround themselves with calming colors. Blue and green are cool hues that imbue our living spaces with serenity. Our homes are our havens, and we're not surprised that the two most popular colors are restful and reassuring."
We would love your feedback!
