Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 8/23/2012 4:38:14 PM

DALLAS - Taking place just prior to the 2012 International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo [PSP] in New Orleans, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals [APSP] will offer three in-depth educational components of the APSP Career Institute, adding another important element to the Expo's stellar line-up of educational offerings.

"Leaders of the APSP Builders Council and Service Council have created powerful programs to challenge the current ways of thinking and learn the key concepts and methods that will highlight their expertise," said Lindsay Roberts, director of the Expo. "The three programs provide attendees with the knowledge, skills and abilities to set them apart from their competition."

The APSP Builders Institute, presented by the APSP Builders Council, is an intense two-day program of interactive workshops designed to be a transformational learning experience that will make attendees a better builder and more effective businessperson.

Classes on Sunday, Nov. 4, include, "Applied Hydraulics for Building Professionals," "Vanishing Edge & Perimeter Overflow Pools: Design Theory, Engineering & Construction Best Practices," "Vanishing Edge & Perimeter Overflow Pools: Applied Knowledge" and "Dynamic Fountains for Small Spaces."

Other Nov. 4 classes will explore, "Energy Efficiency Strategies Customers Expect," "Calculated Hydraulics vs. Actual Performance: What You Need to Know," "Research Results: What Consumers Want From Service Companies" and "Powerful People: Recruiting and Training Top Talent for Your Business."

On Monday, Nov. 5, two half-day workshops include, "Social Media and the Internet Have Created a Major Shift in Marketing Strategies: Find Out What IT All Means and How to Capture It!" and "Know Your Numbers - Estimate Accurate Job Costs to Always Make a Profit!"

Other Nov. 5 classes include, "Stop Thinking Like a Manager: How to Lead Your Business," "Preparing for the 3 "S's": How to Make Your Business Sound for Succession, Sale & Sustainability," "Plaster Problems: Prevention and Solutions" and "How to Protect Yourself from the Pool Popping and Floating Liner Epidemic."

Presented by APSP Service Council, the APSP Technical Service Institute is a highly interactive two-day workshop to increase technical expertise and provide the knowledge and skills to effectively lead a service business.

The APSP Hot Tub Technician Certification covers the essentials of portable hot tub service and equipment repair. The course uses the APSP Hot Tub Technician Manual to guide students through fundamental hot tub design and manufacturing models and then moves on to the basics of troubleshooting and repair.

"These programs were designed to build core skills and share best practices and innovations," said Bill Weber, president and CEO of ASPS, the show's official sponsor. "Registrants will receive the most relevant and useful educational tools to enrich their professional development and success."

PSP will be held Nov. 6-8 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. To register for educational programs, attendees should visit www.poolspapatio.com/attendee. Discounted rates are available through Sept. 25.
