Oborain launches new outdoor shower

Casual Living Staff -- Casual Living, 9/4/2012 9:42:49 AM

OborainOborain's outdoor showerOborain, an outdoor shower company that launched this summer, has developed its first modern pre-fab outdoor shower.

Merging nature, design and technology, the Oborain pre-fab shower brings together an enclosure and a fixture as one package that is simple to assemble, flexible in both size and configuration and easy to plumb. It can be installed either as a permanent structure, or as a temporary shower that can be moved from place to place and stored during cold months.

According to a company press release, one of the company founders, Jim Lobley, was inspired to develop an outdoor shower about a year ago when he looked out at the woods surrounding his home in western Massachusetts and imagined a panelized shower that could be set up on any level clearing, plumbed with garden hoses and brought in for the winter.

"We wanted to bypass the obstacles of digging trenches, sinking posts in the ground and worrying about freezing pipes," Lobley said. "Here in New England, thoughts of winter are never far from your mind."

"Our motto is ‘shower anywhere.' We truly believe that showering outdoors is too great a joy to be reserved just for vacations," co-founder Kirsten Oxboel said. "Our hope is that we can bring this idea to all landscapes and environments, transforming the mundane nature of one's daily routine into a blissful experience."

The Oborain shower is constructed of a stainless steel frame, hardwood decking, mahogany wall panels and a sleek modern fixture.

The shower deck is made from 5/4" Cumaru, a sustainably harvested Brazilian hardwood. The wood panels are made from Dark Red Meranti, a hardwood from Malaysia, which resists weathering and checking (splitting) and is 100% certified by the Malaysian Timber Council to meet sustainability standards.

An integration of German engineering and Italian design, the Axor Citterio three-jet showerhead has full, soft aerated and pulsating massage spray modes, Thermostatic temperature control, an on/off ceramic diverter and a shut off valve.

The shower frames are crafted from 3/4" x 1 1/2" stainless steel tubing, welded locally and polished by hand in the Oborain shop. All of the hardware, including screws, hinges, handles, and clasps, as well as the optional bath hooks and soap tray, are stainless steel.
