Jewels of Java staff Amy Eaton and Hana Simeon pack personal care packages for Sandy victims.
ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- In the days following Superstorm Sandy, the staff of outdoor furniture manufacturer Jewels of Java stepped in to lend a hand to those impacted by the storm.
"After Tropical Storm Lee last year, Jewels of Java employees are all too familiar with the devastating impact of storms and massive flooding," Business Manager Barbara Simeon said in an email. "In response to Sandy, Jewels of Java employees packed personal care bags filled with towels, water, first aid and personal care items."
Superstorm Sandy devastated the Northeast United States, particularly New York and New Jersey, in late October. Severe winds and flooding damaged structures, left millions of people without power and killed 253 people in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.
Simeon's nephew is a junior at Hofstra University on Long Island, which collected items for storm relief and helped storm victims, including families of faculty and staff.
