Mancini honored for lifetime achievement in design

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wesley Mancini, president of Wesley Mancini, Ltd., was honored by the Arts and Sciences Council of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County for his contribution to Charlotte-Mecklenburg's cultural community and life time achievement in design.
ManciniASC Honors awards, given every three years, recognizes exceptionally creative individuals whose lifetime contributions have distinguished them and enriched the cultural and social history for Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Mancini is one of five recipients for 2012. Awards are given in one of the following categories: Science, Literature, History or the Arts (performing arts, visual art or design).
The recipients, recognized on Oct. 16, received a bronze medallion by North Carolina artist Joanna Goldberg.
"Our community is fortunate to have creative individuals who live, work and have made a significant impact in arts, science and history in our community," said ASC President Scott Provancher. "ASC is proud to honor them along with the other recipients for their contributions to our cultural community."
The Arts & Science Council (www.artsandscience.org) was founded in 1958 to run a consolidated United Arts Fund (UAF) drive and serve as a caring house for cultural events for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Today, with the generous support of individual and corporate donors, ASC has raised more than $11.2 million through its Annual Fund Drive. Coupled with public support from the city of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Arts Council, and various Mecklenburg County towns, ASC has granted more than $14
million to support artists, arts and cultural education, neighborhood cultural projects and more than 30 arts, science, history and heritage organizations.
Mancini is a world-renowned designer of home textile fabrics whose designs have been instrumental in the success of many retail programs. As a supplier of fabrics to the trade, Mancini fabrics have been present in virtually every major upholstery and/or bedding manufacturers' line and retailers' floor. In addition, Mancini has designed a signature rug line for Due Process Stable Trading Company.
Mancini received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Philadelphia University (formerly called Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science) and completed his MFA at the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Upon completion of his master's degree in 1977, Mancini entered the work force as a designer of upholstery
fabrics. In 1983, he incorporated Wesley Mancini, Ltd., as an independent studio of textile designs.
During his career, Mancini has been recognized by the industry as a design leader through numerous awards.
He has been included twice in Metropolitan Homes "Design 100" issues, and has received the "DuPont Creative Leadership Award", the Home Fashion Products "HomeTex" award, as well as a National Endowment of the Arts Grant for fabric design.
