Three Coins casts recycled aluminum into dynamic new form

Updated classic draws praise, spurs orders

NEWNAN, Ga. -- Drawing from its classic start, an innovative product is bringing Three Coins Cast into the New Year with a roaring success.
Owner Susanna Powell's folks started Three Coins as a manufacturer of elegant cast aluminum outdoor furniture in 1989. From its beginning, classic styles and finishes have been Three Coins' staple. When Powell took ownership in 2006, she began adding bright colors to make fresh versions of traditional forms. She branded Three Coins Cast as "The Unexpected in Cast Aluminum."
The Newnan, Ga.-based company's new Windsor line is bringing an exciting start to 2013 for the family at Three Coins Cast.
"It started with an idea from North Carolina designer Tony Martin," Powell said. She got together with her design team to reinterpret a traditional Windsor chair. This month, Three Coins added a settee and two sizes of tables to complement the chairs. The Windsor collection was named "Hot Product of the Day" by the Casual Living website on the first day of January's Atlanta Market, where it certainly made a splash.
"Three Coins' Windsor chair is an original translation of a classic form that I love, that sits beautifully. And no one else has tried it," Atlanta-based Hall of Fame Designer Stan Topol said.
Powell noted the Windsor line is available in 23 finishes or customers can choose a custom color. Those options helped to spur sales.
"Our Atlanta Market was huge," Powell said. "Eleven stores added the Windsor Collection, nine of them new." Sales went as far north as New Hampshire and down the entire East Coast, even to stores as far away as Ohio, she said.
