Despite the difficult Economic circumstances Prevailing in parts of Europe, Ambiente 2013 grew on both the exhibitor and visitor sides.
"Ambiente 2013 left no doubt that consumption is ‘in' and gave an impressive demonstration of its position as the world's leading consumer goods fair," said Detlef Braun, member of the executive board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
The international consumergoods fair was held Feb. 15-19 and hosted 4,688 exhibitors from 81 countries, up from 4,530 exhibitors in 2012. Messe Frankfurt's 27 exhibition halls were visited by more than 140,000 visitors, an increase of 2,000 over last year.
Nicolas Luc Villeroy of Villeroy & Boch AG said his company welcomed a "large stream of customers" to its space. "We are very pleased with Ambiente," he said. "Our most important customers from Asia, North America and Eastern Europe, as well as our core markets, such as Germany and France, visited us here. Overall, we have been able to maintain at last year's high level and even improve on it in certain countries, such as Benelux (Belgium-Netherlands- Luxembourg)."
This year, Ambiente welcomed France as "partner country," showcasing exhibitors and programming in lifestyle, creativity and design under the motto "La France un art de vivre." Dr. Philipp Rösler, Germany's federal minister of economics and technology, and Sylvia Pinel, France's minister for crafts, trade and tourism, officially opened the fair. Exhibitors, special guests and members of the press were treated to a colorful Frenchthemed opening night gala, and renowned French actress Catherine Deneuve toured the exhibition halls as a special guest. Ambiente will welcome Japan as the partner country for the 2014 fair.
According to Thomas Grothkopp, managing director of the German Association for Tableware, Housewares and Home, "Ambiente was an extremely good event in all segments with interesting concepts for the specialist trade and super new products, many of them for discerning customers. The trade must have been here in its entirety."
"It is also good that nobody let the financial crisis and political confusion cast a shadow over their business activities," said Dr. Andreas Buske, a board member of Zwiesel Kristallglas AG. "For example, we welcomed a surprisingly large number of visitors from Spain and Greece, as well as a significantly larger number from African nations. One of the most important aspects of the fair is its role as a meeting place and this it does in all exhibition halls."
Trend scouts from German design consultants Bora, Herke, Palmisano distilled a variety of international influences from the worlds of product design, fashion, architecture and art into four overall trends, with several hundred products from exhibitors' latest collections. The four trends for Ambiente 2013, showcased under the banner theme "Welcome to the Jungle," were: Blossom Field, Classic Ground, Eccentric Domain and Contrasting Sphere.
For the first time, fair officials reported, more than half of Ambiente's visitors came from outside Germany. The top 10 visitor nations were Italy, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland, Spain, China, the Russian Federation and Austria. The fair experienced a significant increase in visitors from Eastern Europe, South America, the Middle East and India.
