Shuford Mills extends Outdura warranties

Warranty on furniture-weight Outdura has been increased from three years to five years

-- Casual Living, 1/2/2007 7:48:00 AM

Marine and awning fabricators, boat builders, and manufacturers of casual furniture, umbrellas and replacement cushions – as well as quality-conscious consumers – now can find something new to admire in Outdura performance fabrics from Shuford Mills. The North Carolina company has extended the warranties on all three of its Outdura products.

Jeff Jimison, vice president of sales for Shuford Mills, said the warranties on marine- and awning-weight Outdura and on Outdura Trio have been boosted from five years to six years, while the warranty on furniture-weight Outdura has been increased from three years to five years.

“It’s not often that any product performs so well that the manufacturer decides to extend the warranty,” Jimison said. “These extensions are evidence of Outdura’s performance record and the confidence the industry and the public have shown in this outstanding family of fabrics.

“In part, the success of Outdura may be credited to the Dolan solution-dyed acrylic fiber used in the product,” he added. “Our tests show that Outdura furniture-weight fabrics in solid colors and canvas stripes now exceed the 30,000 double rubs of abrasion required by the hospitality and contract markets.

“No performance fabric is better, better-made or better-warranted than Outdura.  It also offers unprecedented protection from the sun, with a UV Protection Factor (UPF) of 50+. That’s as high as the rating goes and more than three times as high as the minimum recommended by cancer groups,” Jimison said.

One hundred percent solution-dyed Outdura is an acrylic fabric that is stain-resistant, water-repellant and breathable. When properly used and maintained, it will not fade, mildew or lose strength. The award-winning line includes 8-ounce furniture-weight Outdura, 9.25-ounce marine-weight Outdura, and 12.5-ounce Outdura Trio, the only outdoor fabric that is both breathable and waterproof.

Winner of the Gold ADEX Award for design excellence, furniture-weight Outdura is used primarily for upholstery and cushions and is ideal in situations where a fabric needs to stand up to weather, children and pets. Comfortable, family-friendly Outdura is attractive enough for indoor furnishings, yet weather-ready and durable enough for outdoor use. The fabric is available in a broad selection of solid colors, jacquards, dobbies and stripes with new colors, patterns and textural finishes introduced seasonally.

Versatile marine-weight Outdura has been well accepted by fabricators and manufacturers who use it for boat tops, canopies, covers and marine cushions. The fabric also is used in the production of awnings, canopies, outdoor furniture, umbrellas and cushions.

Vibrantly colored Outdura Trio is used for boat, cockpit and playpen covers, T-tops, convertible and Bimini tops, dodgers and enclosures. Trio combines 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic with ProVent® technology and brushed-tricot interliner. The result is a breathable, waterproof outdoor fabric that protects not only from the elements but also from internal, mildew-causing moisture. Stocked in 11 colors with other colors available, Outdura Trio comes 60 inches wide in 60-yard rolls.

Outdura is one of many products produced by Shuford Mills, one of the nation's most diversified textile companies. Established in 1880, the company has long been a major supplier to a wide range of industries. From its headquarters in Hudson, N.C., Shuford Mills directs manufacturing operations that produce woven fabrics.
