Tarson Pools & Spas, a BioGuard dealer in North Syracuse, N.Y., built a pool for a home featured on a recent episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. BioGuard also donated one year’s worth of pool chemicals and maintenance equipment to the Hill family.
Tim Hill started boxing when he was young. His family now runs a boxing school for at-risk kids at their home in Geneva, N.Y., and believes boxing gives kids a sense of pride and accomplishment. The Hills’ adoptive son, Aleem, straightened out his life and found a family in the process by becoming a part of the boxing school. The Hills fund the boxing school so kids can participate free-of-charge, and therefore neglected fixing up their own 200-year-old home.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition gave the Hills a new beginning with a renovated home that included a pool built in 12 hours, and a boxing gym with a pair of gloves that once belonged to Sugar Ray Leonard. George Foreman helped out with a video tribute to the family, and Rochester University started a scholarship of $400,000 in the Hill family name.
One unique feature of the house is a drainage system that has the ability to effectively keep a deck dry, prevent water damage and recycle the water. The system is installed below the deck and allows water to run into a rain gutter to be stored and recycled with a rainwater harvesting system. The area under the deck is protected from water and can be used much like an indoor room.
