Earth Day Conservation Ideas for Mother's Day
Yesterday we celebrated Earth Day and were reminded everywhere we turned how very important it is to Reduce, Reuse, Rethink, & Recycle. Now as you check out at most stores you will notice consumers utilizing reusable bags to carry their groceries and other purchases. It is important to consider everything we do in terms of conserving. It appears from recent news that consumers will be doing their part to conserve as they approach May 11th, 2008.
Consumer spending on Mother’s Day gifts will scale back slightly this year, according to the National Retail Federation’s 2008 Mother’s Day Consumer Intentions and Actions Survey, conducted by BIGresearch. With this in mind, I found some innovative solutions at epicurious.com to bring a little of the outdoors indoors with a spectacular floral arrangement. They show how to create uniquely beautiful centerpieces that carry the appealing colors and heady fragrances of spring to your table. In keeping with their love of all things food-related, each centerpiece features an unexpected edible element: Asparagus and baby artichokes replace traditional greens in an elegant array; glowing grapes cascade over the edge of a tall vase filled with budding branches; and fresh herbs impart a savory note to a sweet-smelling bouquet of lilies.
Once again these same ideas can be translated into the retail environment by creating unusual floral displays to sit on the outdoor dining or coffee table, utilizing fruits, vegetables and flowers from the outside world. You can raffle off these displays as a Mother’s Day promotion or you can have a drawing using people’s email addresses as a way to build an in-house list for future marketing promotions.
Don’t forget to advertise this gift idea either in the form of posters in the store, incorporated into your newspaper or direct mail campaign.

What mom wouldn’t want to be the winner of a lovely centerpiece for their outdoor furniture on Mother’s Day?

These are my outside views, what do you do to conserve?
